Brandi Carlile covers Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’ LP at Carnegie Hall

Grammy Award-winning singer and performer Brandi Carlile took the stage at Carnegie Hall and performed songs from Joni Mitchell’s famous 1971 album, Blue. The event took place the day before Mitchell’s 78th birthday.

See Carlile sing “Happy Birthday” to Mitchell below.

Carlile took to social media the following Sunday morning to share her thoughts, saying:

“I wake up this morning with a hard earned headache 🥃 and a mountain of relief from facing the incomparable ‘Blue’ last night at @carnegiehall. Greatest album of all time in the nation’s most important venue – and I’ll never forget it! There is more to say about that later … but thank you from the bottom of my heart to my amazing group and the one and only birthday girl! @jonimitchell ‘Blue, I love you.’ ”

On Thursday (November 4), Carlile posted a photo with Hall of Fame songwriter Mitchell, saying, “As I rehearse for Carnegie Hall, I gaze at Blue and what an absolute blessing @jonimitchell is to the world… personally. level she deeply influenced and inspired me even if she never sang a note. Hope to make Joni proud this weekend!

“Blue, here’s a seashell for you.
Inside you will hear a sigh a misty lullaby
There’s your song of me ‘

Carlile, who recently published his successful memoir, Broken horses, and popular new LP, In these days of silence, made headlines, including a recent announcement that she would like to become Soundgarden’s new lead singer.

She has also recently performed on Saturday Night Live and Ellen and released new tour dates (below). This is Carlile’s world and we all live in it!

It was the second time that Carlile played Blue in its entirety. The first took place at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on October 14, 2019. Check out Saturday’s full roster here and watch two videos from 2019 below.
