Flushing City Hall Announces Virtual Tribute to the American Melting Pot

Flushing Town Hall announces a virtual tribute to the American Melting Pot on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 7 p.m. EST. The event will focus on and celebrate various music and musicians on the occasion of the National Day.

Flushing Town Hall is known as an affiliate of the Smithsonian and features multidisciplinary global arts that engage and educate the global communities of Queens and New York at large. The place has existed since 1979 and is known for its support for local, immigrant, national and international artists. Flushing Town Hall aims to serve and represent diverse communities around the world and strive to maintain the legacy of inclusion that has defined our community since Flushing’s admonition of 1657.

This celebration at the American Melting Pot’s Flushing Town Hall is supported by the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, the monthly Jazz Jams have been led since 2016 by Astoria resident Carol Sudhalter. Members of the house group include illustrious musicians Joe Vincent Tranchina, Scott Neumann and Eric Lemon.

Carol Sudhalter, frontman of the Flushing Town Hall jazz group, spoke of the upcoming celebration, stating: “From Latin jazz to Miles Davis’ sketches of Spain, the music of virtually every culture has come together. forging a path in the idiom of jazz, enriching its range of colors and sounds. In July, we can’t wait to see how each participant brings their own creative corner of the picture! “

Over the past 15 months, Flushing Town Hall streams have welcomed over 200 musicians. The next American Melting Pot celebration will welcome even more musicians to add to the numbers. Musicians who performed in 2020 are now invited to return to perform at the next performance. Each month, up to five returning musicians and up to 15 new musicians can participate. Selection is made on a first come, first served basis.

Musicians interested in participating on July 14 should email [email protected] with the suggested three to four minute tune that they plan to perform in line with this month’s theme. The performance can be live or pre-recorded audio or video (but not a professional, edited recording such as a CD or YouTube video).

Viewers can log into the Flushing Town Hall Facebook page or Zoom on Wednesday, July 14 at 7 p.m. EST to join the live event for free, without registration.
