Laine Hardy answers our burning questions


american idol Winner Laine Hardy has made a name for himself in country music since winning in 2019. At just 21 years old, the Louisiana native has seen his life turned upside down by stardom over the past few years. His first album Here’s to everyone was released in September 2021, and it will hit the road for a summer tour starting next month.

Hardy joined the American Songwriter‘s Off the Record LIVE to answer a few quick questions about his life outside of music.

American songwriter: favorite drink?

Wool Hardy: Mountain Dew

AS: Your favorite season?

HL: Winter

AS: When are you most productive?

HL: Spring.

AS: Do you feel more like an evening person or a morning person?

HL: Oh, probably at night. But I’m also in the morning, I don’t know.

AS: Chocolate or vanilla?

HL: Chocolate

AS: What was your first job?

HL: This.

AS: The most used emoticons?

HL: To laugh. The one who laughs. They added some new ones, but I still don’t like them too much. I use the old ones.

AS: If you could participate in the Olympics, what sport would you choose?

HL: Swim.

AS: If you could get an Olympic medal for anything, not just a sport, but anything, why would you want one?

HL: I have no idea.

AS: What was your favorite subject in school?

HL: Story.

AS: What kind of story did you like?

HL: American, world. I love learning the history of cultures.

AS: What is your hidden talent?

LH: Oh, I can run pretty fast. Maybe that and I can hold my breath for a long time.

AS: Favorite movie?

HL: Joe Dirt, Forrest Gump, Hercules, Click, happy Gilmore.

AS: Adam Sandler?

LH: Yeah, I like Adam Sandler.

AS: Your favorite TV shows?

HL: Outer Banks, One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries.

AS: Do you watch spinoffs like Legacy or something like that?

LH: I tried to watch Legacy, corn vampire diary is better.

JV: What are your favorite books?

LH: I used to read a lot of cool nature books. I read Hatchet in high school and I loved this book. Malice, I forgot who wrote that. I read a lot of books in high school, actually.

AS: Your favorite dish?

LH: Crayfish.

JV: You mentioned how much you love Louisiana cuisine. Are there any particular dishes or the way you serve them that you like?

LH: It’s just made with love. And the seasoning. They make a great seasoning there.

AS: Finally for you, favorite color?

LH. Oh, man. Dark purple.

AS: Dark purple? Red side or blue side?

LH: Blue side. Purple side.
