Les Rose and The Valley Jazz Collective will perform Jazz Explorations — Compositions of the Masters of Jazz Piano, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley in Los Olivos.

The evening will feature compositions by jazz pianists Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans and Bud Powell. After the concert, the public is invited to enjoy wine and cheese (and soft drinks) at a reception with the artists at Stacy Hall.

Local jazz artists and educators Les Rose, saxophone; Woody Demarco, piano; Pablo Pérez, bass; and Rex Harte, drums, form The Valley Jazz Collective. Sharing the history and stories of this revered American art form, the collective musicians bring artistry and artistry to their performances.

Tickets will be on sale at the door (cash and checks accepted); the price includes post-concert hospitality. Cost: $15 general admission, free admission for students.

Rose, an artist and educator, led the music program at Dos Pueblos High School from 2001 to 2016. He inspired many young musicians while pursuing his own work as a jazz artist and composer. His work includes Broadway shows, Hollywood soundtracks and two of his own albums, “Jump Swing Boogie” and “Jazz Takes”.

Rose currently runs the Santa Ynez High School Jazz Club.
