Local favorite Steve Brown to be featured at intimate Black Box concert

MANSFIELD — When you listen to Steve Brown play music, you would never guess that he hated piano lessons, or that he learned rhythm through Morse code. As a solo performer with a repertoire of over 500 songs, Steve’s piano skills, soft voice and easy smile leave each of his audience in a good mood; and for one night only, guests can enjoy an intimate concert with Steve and four other inspiring musicians at Renaissance’s 166 Theater on October 30.

“As a pianist playing in cellars, restaurants and piano bars, I am delighted to invite four of my jazz friends to join me for an evening of live jazz. I am also proud to continue the vision of the late Dr. Tom Croghan, who was a great local supporter of the arts, especially jazz. Theater 166 provides the perfect intimate setting to share this music with audiences, ”said Brown.

Members of the famous 5-piece ensemble include Steve Brown on piano and vocals; Jeffrey Boyd on trumpet; Eric Fairhurst on saxophone and transverse flute; Dan Conwell on bass; and Steve Berry on drums. At Concert Theater 166, (Steve Brown and his friends will perform some of the great music from the American Songbook as a platform to showcase their performing and improvising skills. This evening of authentic live jazz will feature the works by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Chick Corea and many more).

“It’s exciting to be able to introduce Steve Brown and his friends this season,” said Chelsie Thompson, President of Renaissance. “Steve has been a staple in our music community, both as an artist and as an educator, and we are so fortunate to have local musicians of the caliber this ensemble offers.”

Steve Brown and Friends will premiere at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30 at Ren’s Black Box space, Theater 166, located at 166 Park Avenue West. This concert is made possible by the presenter of the Avita Health Systems concert series, with additional support from Hudson & Essex.
