Newton residents will soon have another way to keep up to date with all things Newton with the launch of The Newton Beacon, a non-profit local news website.
“The Newton Beacon will be a new non-profit digital news site committed to fair, non-partisan and professional reporting on local news and issues,” website bed. “The focus will be on the local – rooted in and dedicated to the city of Newton.”
The Newton Beacon was born in response to a decline in local news in Newton, which, according to its site, was found to be linked to “declining voter turnout, corrosion of factual decision-making and weakening of responsibility of the government”. .”
The Newton News Foundation, a newly created non-profit organization, will publish the site.
