The Recording Academy withdrew Marilyn Manson’s nomination for Best Rap Song for “Jail,” a song he helped co-write on Kanye West’s recent album Donda. Manson is still in contention for a Grammy for Album of the Year for Donda.
Grammy organizers came under scrutiny when the shock rocker, 52, who is currently under investigation on charges of sexual assault by multiple women, received two nominations . Comedian Louis CK, who admitted to sexual misconduct in 2017, was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedic Album for Sincerely Louis CK.
âWe will not be limiting who can submit their material for review,â Recording Academy president and CEO Harvey Mason, jr., Said in a statement following the announcement of the nominees for 2022. âWe are wont look back on people’s history, we wont look at their criminal records, we wont look at anything other than legality in our rules of, is this recording for this job eligible based on date and other Criteria, if so, they can submit for review.
In early 2021, actress Evan Rachel Wood accused Manson of emotional, sexual and physical abuse during their relationship, which lasted from 2007 to 2010. Several lawsuits were filed against Manson, and on December 1, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies raided the West Hollywood Apartment, seizing media storage units, including hard drives. Manson, real name Brian Hugh Warner, was not at home at the time of the raid.
The review is one of many nominations the Academy made to the 64th annual Grammy nominations, which were revealed on November 24, including the addition of songwriter Linda Chorney, who is now in the running for best American Roots song for “Bored”.
“This audit is now complete and Ms. Chorney’s registration has been added,” the Academy said in a statement. âWe apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused, but it is essential to ensure the integrity of our voting process. ”
In a recent interview, Chorney said Mason told her she was “flagged” because of previous comments she made about the Grammys. In 2011, Chorney received criticism after receiving a Grammy nomination for Best American Album because she never recorded an album sale. The singer-songwriter then made an experience-based film titled When i sing.
Chorney said she was thrilled to be nominated and that the Academy quickly addressed this recent oversight. âI was ecstatic,â she said. “I felt validated.”
The 64th Annual Grammys Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live from Los Angeles on Paramount + and CBS on January 31.
