Singer Tarsame Singh Saini aka Taz of Stereo Nation dies at 54


90s pop sensation Tarsame Singh Saini, known as Taz of Stereo Nation, has died. According to reports, the singer suffered from liver failure as a result of which he fell into a coma. He was 54 years old.

Taz rose to fame with his album ‘Hit The Deck’ in 1989. He was the lead singer of the pop group Stereo Nation which was formed in 1996 and has been called the pioneer of cross-cultural Asian fusion music. He produced many albums in the 1990s and his most popular album to date is Slave II Fusion which was released in 2000. It included chartbusters like “Pyar Ho Gaya”, “Nachenge Saari Raat” and “Gallan Gorian” .

Taz has also contributed music to Bollywood films. He had songs like “Daroo Vich Pyar” (Tum Bin), “It’s Magic” (Koi Mill Gaya), among others under his belt.

As soon as news of Taz’s disappearance surfaced online, many celebrities expressed their grief. Hrithik Roshan was one of them. He tweeted that he added the magic in the song “It’s Magic” in his movie Koi Mil Gaya. “Taz added the magic, in ‘It’s magic’ by Koi Mil Gaya with his soulful voice. Prayers and strength to his family. You will be missed. RIP 🙏🏻,” his tweet read.

Singer Mika wrote a note on Instagram which read: “The great singer @tazstereonation sadly left us his beautiful memories. He was recently hospitalized and unfortunately in a coma. I grew up listening to his music Lal lal bulliyan, nachange sari raat as well as other massive hits. May God bless his soul and may he rest in eternal peace 🙏🏼.

Singer Jasbir Jassi wrote: “I remember I used to open the shows on the promotional tour you were doing to launch the ‘Oh Carol’ album with Times Music and we became friends forever . Superstar in the true sense of the word and my dear friend you will always have a special place in my heart and in my professional life. We still had so much work to do together but you left us very quickly. Today I lost a very dear friend and all of us a very talented and amazing artist. Rest in peace #taz 🙏🙏🙏”

Film producer Gurinder Chaddha shared a photo of herself with Taz and wrote: “Heartbroken to hear that a pioneer of the UK Asian music scene has just left us. You can’t underestimate my excitement at the first #HitTheDeck audition. By #jonnyZee then @tazstereonation pure Asian pop fusion. 🙏🏾 for all the joy you gave me Taz ❤️ 💔 God bless you @tazstereonation.

Singer Jay Sean wrote: “So sad to hear of the passing of this legend. You have touched so many lives and continue to do so as your music lives on. May you rest in peace bro.”

A few weeks ago, Stereo Nation’s management team shared Taz’s health update which read, “Dear All, Taz Sir is no longer in a coma, he is showing improvement every day. The family thanked everyone for their support and prayers during this difficult time. When there is more positive news, the family will let us know. Thanks again for your positive thoughts🙏🏾.”
