The American singer and artist from OPM Sahara ends 2021 on a festive note, with the release of her very first Christmas single, “Tanging Hiling” written by Dennis Quila, Sahara co-producer and Tagalog mentor. Available online on Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music and other major digital music platforms, this song is a dream come true for Sahara saying, “This is an early Christmas present for all of you.”
âTanging Hilingâ is a perfect starting point for the start of the Christmas season, which began with the âBerâ months in the Philippines.
âMy co-producer Dennis surprised me one day and brought a demo of an unreleased Christmas song to the studio to play for the crew (me, Dennis and Michael). I immediately fell in love with the music and the message, and I knew we had to save it.
Asked about the song’s real meaning, Quila explained that the song is about “how love is more important than anything else, and why it’s always a perfect gift instead of material things.”
He shared, âI wrote this song on August 11, 1999, it was 22 years ago. I was in Japan when I was working as a pianist in a hotel, and it was the first time. that I was so far from my family during Christmas time.
âAfter ‘DBSK’ was released, we thought about a follow-up song. So I searched my treasure chest for original compositions and came across this Christmas song. It has never been recorded before and I never even tried to introduce ‘Tanging Hiling’ to other artists. But when I presented this song to Michael and Sahara, I was blown away by their reaction. So Sahara put all her efforts into studying ‘Tanging Hiling’ and then I hurried right away with the areglo, the live guitars (made by Ricky Topacio) and the recording process since it’s getting close to ‘ Ber months. It’s a dream come true for me since Christmas carols are only played in the last quarter of each year, âQuila beamed proudly.
When asked what Christmas means to her, Sahara exclaimed, âLove, togetherness and creating great memories with the people I love. And remember that our life on earth is a blessing.
She also revealed some of her favorite Christmas songs, including her favorite Christmas traditions and Christmas meals. âMy favorite Christmas songs are ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, ‘Feliz Navidad’ and I have a thing for ‘Santa Baby’. To be honest, I usually listen to the Vintage Christmas playlist on Spotify.
âMy mom is Native American and Mexican, so one of our traditions is to make homemade tamales for Christmas. They smelled so good and it was so much fun. And I love to eat! These days, I can’t wait to decorate the Christmas tree with my husband and our cat.
Meanwhile, Sahara’s âTanging Hilingâ this Christmas is âI love that life is back to normal – safe – for everyone. But more so, for everyone to be blessed with another year of good health. âShe also expresses a strong desire to tour the Philippines, meet her new fans and visit the beach.
Ahead of this new musical release, the American anthem Diva released her cover of “Dahil Ba Sa Kanya” in August, which officially marked her debut as a solo artist in the Philippines.
Asked about her goals and plans for the New Year, Sahara thought for a moment before responding.
âTo be honest, it’s been a tough few years for everyone. But I learned a lot about myself, and how to stay grounded and focused on a project, a goal and a dream. I just want to continue to be a better, more positive person, and share positive energy, love, joy, emotions, etc. with my fans and the world through music.
Sahara is also gearing up for something big, scheduled for next year. âYes, we have a small album (EP) of original OPM songs scheduled for early next year. I work with my team every day to achieve this goal.
âAt the moment, I have no plans to record another cover. But I combine my love of opera and OPM and learn a classic Kundiman song that I can’t wait to share with my fans. I also mastered ‘Sayang na Sayang’, to play live and on a future tour.
